Hi, I’m Emily!
I'm super into bright colors, fun patterns, things shaped like other things, and guilty of buying things because I like the way the branding looks.
I'm currently on a 13-year hyperfixation streak for anything Marvel or Taylor Swift-related.
Some of my favorite things:
🪩 Disco Balls
🍦 Ice Cream
📓 Scrapbooking

💖 My Pink Velvet Couch
Emily, can you tell us about your pink couch?
I've tried condensing this about five billion times, but ultimately, it's a story about how the devil really is in the details.
After graduating in 2019, I lived at home, a temporary situation that was prolonged by COVID. I wasn’t in a rush to live with strangers, until one apartment listing caught my attention for a single reason: the pink velvet couch in the living room. Luckily, the “stranger” I’d be moving in with was a childhood friend, and the three of us—me, her, and the couch—shared an apartment for two years.
When I moved to New York in 2022, my new apartment was tiny and came with a loveseat, but I swore my first solo place would have the exact same pink velvet sofa as my former roommate: the Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams 84" Sloane Sofa in Pink Performance Velvet.
In 2023, I finally found a place that could fit it, ordered the couch, and waited the three months it would take for them to fulfill the order.
One week before delivery, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams announced it was shutting down immediately and filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
A normal person would've probably contacted their bank and just found another comparable couch.
But I was so hellbent on this exact couch that I scoured every secondhand source until I tracked down the exact model in Brooklyn, only it was an awful mustard yellow. I still had my original pink swatches, so I took it to an upholsterer, who brought my couch to life.
Now it sits in my living room as proof that sheer obsession pays off. I get things exactly right. Not because it’s easy, but because I refuse to settle for anything less than what I imagined.
